Occasionally, we have older dogs available for adoption to approved loving homes. These dogs are usually retired show dogs, younger dogs that we have been evaluating for showing/breeding purposes and have not come up to expectations, or dogs that simply don't enjoy being shown.
This does not mean that they won't
make wonderful loving companions!
We do not place these dogs because we don't love them anymore. On the contrary, we would love to keep them all here, but if we can find one of our kids a permanent loving home with their very own humans to spoil them - then we feel that we owe it to them to allow them leave our tribe.
All of our adults are placed on the terms that they are neutered (desexed) before they leave us. Only under special circumstances will we waive this requirement.
Where possible, we will request a face-to-face meeting with the adoptive parents, so that they can meet the dog, and we can see that this particular basenji is the right companion for you. Just like people, basenjis have different personalities too, and we have found at times in the past, the dog the person has come to meet, is not the dog they end up adopting!
For more information about adopting an older basenji from Mzalia, or about any of the basenjis we currently have available, please fill out our Adoption Enquiry Form. You can also use this form to put your name down on a waiting list so that we can let you know if a suitable basenji becomes available.
